Should You Stock Wear Parts?

The topic that I would like to address is STOCK REPLACEMENT PARTS. As the Service Manager I see the frustration and cost that our customers experience when a perishable item breaks, or wears out. These items are normal wear items that must be replaced at routine intervals, such as drive belts, infeed belts, output belts, wear plates, torque limiter disc and fuses to name a few.

Many times customers must decide between being down another day or paying the high cost for overnight shipping. The cost to get replacement parts to our customers overnight can exceed the cost of the replacement part itself. You may be able to find a part locally, however many times this is not a direct replacement and does not fit properly. This can compromise the performance of the equipment, decrease the life of the part, and may often cost more than our factory replacement part.

The solution I recommend is to stock these wearable items at your location for routine maintenance and for the unexpected failures. Stocking replacement parts will save you money in the long run because you would avoid the high cost of overnight shipping. Your down time would be reduced, as well, saving you unproductive labor costs.
